Do you need their permission to take it?
Legally, in NY State, abandoned personal property in your home is yours to dispose of after a reasonable notice period. If you want to be safe, send them one final text giving 48 hours. Otherwise we just take it. We are not lawyers, but we've done this many, many times.
Can you donate the good stuff instead of dumping it?
Yes. We work with NYC donation centers — anything still useful gets a second life. We'll send you the donation receipt if you want one.
Can I just watch from the couch?
