Frequently asked questions

How much does refrigerator removal cost in NYC?

A standard refrigerator is $221, a side-by-side or French-door $246, and a mini fridge $155. Chest freezers are $196 and upright freezers $201. It's a flat rate regardless of floor or borough, and EPA Section 608 refrigerant recovery is included — no separate disposal fee. Minimum order is $75.

Do I have to empty and defrost it first?

Yes, please. Pull all the food and loose shelves, and unplug the unit about 24 hours before pickup so it can defrost — a towel underneath catches the melt water. A defrosted, empty fridge is lighter and cleaner to carry out, and it won't drip down your stairs on the way.

What is EPA Section 608 — do you handle the refrigerant?

Refrigerators and freezers contain refrigerant gases that federal law (EPA Section 608) requires be professionally recovered before the unit is scrapped — you can't legally just crush a fridge. We route every unit to a facility that recovers the refrigerant and recycles the steel and aluminum. It's built into the price; you don't arrange anything.

Can you do same-day refrigerator removal?

Often, yes — upload your photos and select same-day at checkout, subject to hauler availability. You'll get a 2-hour arrival window before you confirm.

Do I need to move it to the curb?

No. Our two-person crew comes inside, disconnects the unit, wraps it, and carries it out — any floor, walk-up or elevator. You don't lift anything.

Can't I just leave it at the curb for DSNY?

You can — DSNY collects refrigerators free by appointment (schedule at 311) and handles the CFC refrigerant recovery for you. The catch is that you have to get a 250-lb appliance down to the curb yourself and wait for the scheduled day. Paid removal makes sense when you can't move it down three flights alone, or you need it gone today — our crew does the disconnect and the carry-out from inside.

Do you take freezers, mini-fridges, and wine coolers too?

Yes — chest and upright freezers ($196–$201), mini fridges ($155), and wine coolers all fall under the same EPA refrigerant handling. Snap a photo and the quote will price the exact unit.

My building needs a Certificate of Insurance — can you handle that?

Yes. Enter your managing agent's name and email at checkout and we'll send the COI directly, usually within a couple of hours and at no charge, so the hauler can complete the pickup.
