What Sunnyside pickups actually look like

Sunnyside is two distinct neighborhoods stitched together along Queens Boulevard. South of the boulevard is Sunnyside Gardens — the 1924 Clarence Stein and Henry Wright planned community of 16-block English garden-court row houses, on the NYC Historic Districts register since 1974. These are 2-and-3 story brick row houses sharing interior garden courts; we never drive a truck through the interior court, we stage on the street and dolly through the front entry. The HOA-style covenants are gone, but the community still polices the courts informally.

North of Queens Boulevard you're in standard 4-to-6 story prewar walk-up apartment buildings along 39th, 43rd, and 47th Avenues — the 7 train corridor. The Greenpoint Avenue stretch toward Long Island City has a long-running Irish pub and Irish-American household presence (the bars, the parishes), and the demographics include strong Colombian, Ecuadorian, and Mexican populations across the rest of the neighborhood. Spanish on request is a routine call here.

The east edge of Sunnyside abuts the Sunnyside Yard and the LIC industrial blocks — small commercial cleanouts and contractor debris from that border show up about once a week. We can stage trucks on Northern Boulevard or 39th Place; the LIE service road and the BQE are both within reach.
